grade 9 (year 10)

Grade 9 was my first year in high school, where I had the opportunities to meet new friends and face new challenges in my education. I would say that the years experienced at this particular time was one of the best years of my high school life, as we didn't have to worry about COVID and we just lived life (for the first semester).

creativity - learning guitar

The first COVID lockdown had me extremely disappointed, not being able to talk to friends in real life, and not being able to go out and play football. However, I decided to not focus on the negatives of this lockdown. I decided that I should do something during this lockdown that can benefit me and others around me, to which the answer was my guitar. I got my guitar when I was 12 years old, and I never really had the time to touch and play it. Thus, I had to overcome a new challenge and learn guitar by myself, which could be related to learning outcome 2; overcoming new challenges and developing new skills in the process. I also feel that my devotion to playing my guitar during the lockdown (which lasted about 6 months) relates to learning outcome 4, which is showing commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences. Additionally, I also associate this experience with learning outcome 1 because  with each day of practice I noted down my weaknesses and strengths, and the next day of practice I focused on working on those weaknesses so that I can ensure I have the correct technique to play the song. To this day, I still play guitar and learn new songs to play for my friends and family, all thanks to the COVID-19 lockdown.

CAS Learning Outcomes:

2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

action - football team

During this year, I was part of the football team for Wells International School. The CAS Learning outcomes I think that I have learnt is 2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process and 4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

Firstly, I think that I have demonstrated that challenges have been undertaken, and I have developed new skill in the process. This is because I've never been in a football team in this school, let alone a sports team, and this experience was new for me and I'm not going to forget it. The skills that I have learned in this new experience is co-operation, and I managed to also make some new friends. Secondly, to be in the football team, you need to show commitment to training. I've shown commitment by showing up to training every Tuesday after school at 3:30 PM, because not only do I want my team to win, but I also want to work on myself to be a better footballer. Training has not only helped me make new friends, but it also helped me to become a better footballer.

CAS Learning Outcomes:

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

Being a part of K9, I felt it was my obligation to support the club, and one way that students can do this is to purchase a K9 shirt. Not only will the financially support the club for their future meetings, but it also makes me feel that I am a part of something that makes a difference. Sure, one can say that just joining the club will make you be part of that club, but once I got the shirt I felt closer to the club and motivated to do what I can for the club. The money also goes into the support fund for the CHSA-Thai dog shelter.

CAS Learning Outcomes:

4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
